TURNLOCK COLLECTION

You asked, we delivered — the Turnlock is back. Reimagined across new silhouettes, from shoulder bags to crossbody and mini grab styles, we’re bringing our signature statement hardware into a thoroughly modern moment.

Think east–west silhouettes, knot-detail straps and effortlessly slouchy leather — each style blends heritage details with everyday ease. Nostalgic? Yes. Now? Absolutely.

When deciding which archival styles we’d revive for our 30th birthday, we looked to our incredible online Mimcommunity for inspiration. After a healthy dose of scrolling through the Mimco hashtag on TikTok and Instagram, one clear frontrunner emerged: the iconic Turnlock — a true grail piece among vintage collectors.
First launched in 2008, this signature statement hardware has been reimagined across countless applications over the years — from shoulder bags and pouches to clutches, backpacks and even jewellery.
Its hefty, almost industrial edge paired with refined leather brings a touch of toughness that perfectly captures the spirit of Mimco — expressive, unexpected and designed to add a distinctly unique twist to your everyday ride-or-die pieces.

The story of how this embodiment of the brand came to be is a special one, and we were lucky enough to chat with Jessica Poynter — now Head of Accessories Design at Country Road — who was the Design Assistant behind its genesis.

“The Turnlock concept originated in 2007.

I was a Junior Designer working under Cath Wills, Design Manager at the time, who one day challenged the design team with the idea that ‘inspiration can come from anywhere’. I remember thinking about this a lot and ended up at a hardware store the following weekend.

Wandering through the aisles, I saw lots of different components and thought a hinge detail could be an interesting idea to explore. I sketched up lots of different concepts, but the one that stood out most was the round Turnlock. I showed Cath the following Monday and she instantly wanted to bring it to life.”

This open-minded approach to seeking inspiration from unexpected places is a practice the Mimco design team continues to embrace to this day — a reminder that the most iconic ideas can come from anywhere.

To commemorate this long-awaited re-release, we commissioned the talented Rebekah Penton of All Occasion Cakes to create an edible take on this beloved style (pictured left).
